For ages now, many people think that meditation is fit for adults only. Meditation is a way to calm down, and since adults are the ones who face high-intensity stress and tensions, it has been associated with them all along.
With the change in trends and lifestyle, it has been realized that children suffer stress too and hence meditation can be a good way to calm them down as well. You might argue that children are young and innocent, but in reality, they undergo stress and require a relaxation technique.
If you have wanted to introduce meditation to your children, but you do not know how this article will discuss ways on how to do that successfully. Read on.
Use a Comfortable Space
Just like in adults meditation should be done from a comfortable space. Look for a quiet place and engage the child in meditation. To keep them alert play soft classical music. You do not want them to fall asleep. Did you know that soft music relaxes the mind and body of overly active children? They might accept your offer right away, but you can lure them in by promising them a gift.
Make Them Comfortable
Do not force them to sit while crossing their legs. Allow them to sit in whatever position they are comfortable in. They might sit on a chair with their legs stretched for example. Allowing them to sit in the position they are okay with makes them concentrate better.
Do It Along with Them
Instructing them will not bear the fruits you want because they might not understand what you want them to do. Sit with them and show them what you want them to do. Ask them to replicate. Some might find it difficult to perform some actions, but this should not discourage you. Encourage them and make sure that they feel part of the group or else they will not attend the next class.
Adults might be able to sit for more than an hour alone in a quiet room, but it might not be possible with children. Start with less time and increase gradually. You can promise them a treat or gift if they sit for the whole time you asked them to. Motivate them as much as you can, but never force anything on them.
